People say not to mix work and family…well, we’re a family-owned business that has been serving our community for 32 years and we’re still going strong. As a matter of fact, some of our fondest memories over the years have been centered around family.

We’ve had so much to celebrate–from anniversaries and birthdays to graduations and expanding our team…and now a whole new building! This has been a dream of ours for years; to have more space to service equipment, keep inventory stocked, take care of our team, and to help you power your outdoors.

Call us nostalgic, but making the move over to our new building has gotten us thinking about some of our favorite memories that we made in our old space. Here are a few:

Great Joppa, AKA George Smit

Coming up with just one favorite memory is a hard thing. Carl’s has always been about family!

Over the years we have had several nieces and nephews and my brother work for us. But my favorite memories would have to be of my dad. He retired from farming and came by almost every day. His jobs included sharpening blades and chainsaw chains plus sitting and talking to customers and sharing his lunch with our granddaughter, Kiya!

We always loved seeing his red truck pull in. He was a great help but also a great encourager! Something my dad always said was: “It’s not worth getting all tore up about!” These are wise words that I need to remember more often!!!

I will always be thankful for the memories and the extra time we were able to spend with him. – Beth

Work & Chill

In the old building, my grandpa Smit (Beth’s father) would come in and work all morning, then he’d sit around the old fireplace and talk/hang out with whoever was there. He was an old farmer who still wanted to get out of the house and work, and those times having him around are still some of my favorite memories. – Clayton

A Fateful Friday

*This one comes with a warning label: Do not try this at home!!*

Thinking back about favorite memories…I had a lot go through my head. In fact, this is probably something that will have you wondering, “Why did he remember this??”

I was 16. It was a Friday night and me and a buddy were in a hurry to get out that night. I was driving a mower inside and the doors were open, but I was in such a hurry that I just NAILED the side of the door. Glass shattered everywhere and I felt absolutely terrible. Of course, I didn’t end up getting to go out that night, but I felt worse because I knew it cost my parents money to fix it. – Josh

The Joys of Being a Grandpa

Some of my favorite memories of all time are from when Josh’s little girl Kiya was a baby. She’d spend all day at the shop and I’d get to sing her to sleep for naps and take her for rides on the tractors. Being a grandpa AND being able to work with my granddaughter was incredibly special. – Carl

The Extended Carl’s Family
